With children getting older and interested in driving Garth decided it was time to look for a project vehicle to either build or restore.

The aim was to get all the family involved with the rebuild and then the driving pleasures. He was pointed in the direction of three Lotus 7 replicas that had been imported from South Africa Via an 8-10 year holiday where they remained in a shed on the wharfs in Singapore.

The cars had been originally made by a company called R.M. Unfortunately their 7 was a little too close to the Caterham and had to cease production when Caterham lawyers took more than a passing interest.

This car is Chassis No. 42 (of around approximately 200) and was bought from the importer in Wanganui. The car arrived as a lot of boxes of bits, Chassis was powder coated and body panels painted apart from that everything else

needed to be cleaned sanded, with 10 years salt and dirt to be removed, and painted before being fitted although several parts needed replacing or were not there. After 7 months of weekends and nights alone in the garage We purchased a new battery and oil and an engine that had not been run for 10 odd years was coaxed into life . Three months after that we got to test the rest of the car on Manfield's track.
