In the late sixties Roger bought a home-built sports car called an Elva Ford he drove it around for another 10 years before going on his OE. While he was gone his father sold the car for the ridiculously low price of about $200. When Roger returned to Wellington he went looking for it but the car had disappeared.
During the late 90’s he discovered the Beattie and it looked remarkably like his old Elva. Later that year he saw one for sale in Classic Car. At the time it was a rolling chassis, the second built by Beattie, and GRP body. Alan Hare of Stokes Valley finished the car. The engine has been fully ported, polished and homed with twin Dellorto carbs. Corolla five speed gearbox is connected via carbon fibre clutch at one end and an Escort diff at the other. Original rear drum brakes have been replaced with discs.
The exterior has been finished in metallic blue with blood red upholstery. Roger says it is like driving a go-kart on the road and it has exceeded all his expectations.
