Owner: Paul Chipp Year Purchased: 2004 Year Finished: 1988 Type: Special Profile Date: Nov ‘07
Paul acquired this car as part payment for an MGB Roadster that he sold in Dec 2004. The vendor told him that it was a Chevron, but later when he showed it to Ron Robertson he recognised it straight away as the car he built for his nephew in 1987 over a period of three months from parts and materials he had in his garage.
Ron made the chassis, the body, the windscreen and all the fibre glass components, except the rear guards, at home as well as the many other bits and pieces that were required. Originally powered by 1600cc Ford Capri motor and Gearbox with Vauxhall Viva front suspension and brakes and Datsun 180B independent rear suspension. It has since been repowered by a Toyota 4AGE engine with Toyota K50 5 speed gearbox.
Over the last few yeas Paul has had to make many repairs to the car to keep it roadworthy but only to the things that later owners have changed on the car, all of Ron's initial work has stood the test of time and is still in good shape after 20 years. Not a bad innings for any car these days.
The car is still heaps of fun and Paul hopes to be driving it for another 20 years, even if he has to get a carrier rack for his zimmer frame fitted to it.
