Since his teenage years when Pat worked as a mechanic he has always wanted to build a car. However family, kids going to ClubsprintXLBridson2university, etc. put this dream on the back burner for many years. Now as he heads toward retirement he finally has been able to find a bit of surplus cash to take on a project like this. He first saw the Clubsprint as a collection of fiberglass panels at a car show in Hamilton and was one of the first people to purchase a kit. Still he liked the Lotus 7 styled car and after looking at the competition decided that the Almac would give the best value for his dollar and also fit his 6 foot 2 frame.

ClubsprintXLBridson1At that time no road legal Clubsprints existed as the prototype was still under construction and still undergoing development. As he built the car he frequently caught up to the same part of construction being worked on the prototype and had to wait as Almac sorted out the necessary parts, such as windscreen uprights, or something else needed to finish a certain part of the build. Having a single donor car Pat believes made the car quite a straight forward build project and kept the costs down too. He bought his donor MX5 off Turners Car Auctions in Hamilton. He then used the bits he wanted which included the mag wheels and sold what was left to an MX5 wrecker. The MX5 has a lot of street credibility which can only be improved by putting it into the lighter car and lower car. Pat got his car finished in just over two years and it was actually road legal several months ahead of the prototype. He is now keen to build another car.
