Colin Chapman designed the Lotus 7 chassis in 1957 and almost 50 years later this design is still the basis of most of the cars produced by the kit car industry. Along comes McGregor Motorsport who have been involved in motorsport for over 40 years. So it should be no surprise that John should want to build this style of car. John has taken the basic design and improved it for local conditions: It is a little longer in the cockpit and wider in the footwell. Their priorities were comfort, safety, strength and production simplicity.

John has designed the chassis to accept parts readily available from the local second hand market. While the price list shows the use of Ford Escort components they can adapt the design to use many other combinations of components such as Toyota or Ford Sierra. The front suspension follows the current trend of double unequal length wishbones and adjustable coil over shock absorbers. It is fitted with a highly developed 1700cc Ford crossflow and twin 45 Webers. It gives the odd 4AGE a bit of a fright but will idle smoothly at 1000rpm and is pleasant to drive in city traffic. Brookland wind deflectors or a conventional full screen can be fitted.
