The first Moss model (the Malvern) was produced in 1982 in Sheffield. The donor vehicle for this car was born in 1973 as a Triumph Spitfire. In 1988 it was sold to a Stephen Guyatt who used it to construct his Malvern kit car using parts supplied by Moss. The car was originally completed in 1989 and moved to New Zealand in 1999.

However just before it left for NZ the motor blew on the way to the docks. Once it arrived in NZ the Spitfire 1300cc engine was replaced with its current Triumph Toledo 1500cc motor. It was also at this time that it was converted from a 2 + 2 to a 2 seater. Gauges are standard Spitfire as is most of the running gear. Minor type rims and side lights are from an Austin A55/60 van or pickup.

Doug saw it advertised in a classic car magazine. As he has always had an attraction to the classic English sports car such as the MG and Morgan, this was the closest that he would be likely to get to owning one. He flew to Wanganui to buy and drove it home to Christchurch.
