Daryl first saw the Striker for sale in the July 2003 copy of the Classic Car magazine. He had been wanting to buy a small engined (cheap to run and maintain) sports car that he could use on the road and track. He had investigated the MX-5 car club and liked the type of events they were involved in but after going to the Whitakers Classic Car meetings each November for the past 15 years and admiring cars like the Beattie and Frasers , the Striker was more to my liking and pocket!
A the trip was made up to Hamilton to view the car and talk to it's builder Bruce Weeks. It was obvious had spent a lot of effort to achieve a good finish so I was sold on it. At 6' 2" it was a tight squeeze for Daryl and he had to change the pedal-box as the seat is not adjustable.
After two years of driving the only real problems have been an ignition system meltdown due to a incorrectly modified rev counter and the Speedo drive gear in the Toyota Celica. The car has proven to be very economical and reliable as well as fun to drive. The first time the car was used in anger was at a public open day (boy racers day) at Manfeild. Despite being taken on by two 7.5 litre Mustangs that both crashed leaving Daryl to a fun "first" drive trying to come to grips with correct driving lines, gear selection and so on.
Daryl has now enjoyed many clubman days, CCC picnic days and rallies as well as seeking out those winding country roads on a fine weekend.
