Noel originally owned a 1950’s MGTF. Since then he has retained a great fondness for that style of sports car. The problem was that he wanted 50’s style with 90’s performance. SwallowCheetham3He wanted a car in which he could relive the good old days at today’s speeds. He first saw the Swallow at a Palmerston North car show and he was quite impressed with the style and finish of the car. Until then the only ‘Kit’ cars that he had seen had been poorly finished or still in bits after many years. If a home built car could be made to look this good then Noel was a starter.

The Swallow is based on the 1937 Jaguar SS100 with some concessions being made to the design to accommodate the more modern running gear. The car has been painted Brooklands Green with the upholstery being Tan deer leather. Hood Bows and side screen frames were made by Noel for the soft-top.SwallowCheetham2

Instruments have come out of a XJ6 Jaguar. The 2.8 straight six motor and gearbox are Nissan 280ZX. Lights are of a ’24 Essex with mini lights inside it. Rear lights were a real score as they were copies of the original The original is worth about $2,000 in today's dollars when they were new. A dozen copies were discovered at a swap meet and purchased for about $60 each. All other running gear is from the reliable XU Torana. Eventually Noel wants to fit 15” bolt on wire wheels so that the car looks reasonably period.
