Ross was after an engineering challenge and believed that building a car would be a realistic way that he would achieve ownership of a classic performance sports car. The Morgan Plus 8 would provide a good level of performance and retain some intrinsic value when finished. After looking at the UK and what they had to offer Ross reasoned that he could build a better
quality one himself since the relatively simple Morgan body lends itself to hand construction.
Ross has built a fully triangulated space frame chassis instead of the Z section ladder frame and oak body frame
or the original. This will make his car considerably more stiff. The plans for the space frame were sourced from a F27 (Lotus 7 kit) and then modified to fit the Morgan outline. With inboard coil over springs up front and a live axle rear the handling should also be significantly improved. Front hubs, discs and rack are ex-Cortina. The rear end is 4 trailing arms and Panhard Rod, locating a Borg Warner 3:08 LSD and a Falcon live axle and rear drums.
All body panels are alloy with the exception of the curvy bits, these are all fibreglass moulded over temporary frames in the classic boat building style. Instrumentation is of the after market Smiths type. This car has been totally built by Ross and its quality of finish is greater than that of the original. The only work outsourced was the upholstery and painting.
