This car was originally built by Ian Macrae back in 1986. (See Macrae '88 profile) By the time that Brian bought it he had become the third owner and now the car was a neglected pile of bits in a Lower Hutt garage. It was two months of chasing before Brain was able to purchase it and then he discovered that it was registered as a Cortina station wagon.

After almost a complete rebuild the car is now registered as a Lotus 7 Replica. Apart from a nice paint job, the addition of a roll bar, twin Weber carbs, wider mags and a totally new fully worked 140hp motor the car is basically the same car it was in 1986.

The chassis is of lightweight square tubular space frame construction with the body being virtually all made from aluminium. The exception to the rule being the guards which are fibreglass. The bonnet, which incorporates the nose cone, is made from strips of aluminium riveted together to get the shape and then was carefully smoothed over with bondi to get the fine seamless shape. The mechanicals are mainly Mk II Cortina and the car is still streamlined with its original styled aeroscreen.
