Having always liked the look of the early MG sports cars Bob checked out an Almac TC that was for sale in bits. Being a bit of a mechanic but not much of a panelbeater the fibreglass body and more modern mechanic's appealed. A visit to the Almac factory to ask Alex's advice revealed, under a sheet in the corner of the workshop the original TG with the number 1 chassis number. This looked like a much better proposition as Alex had built the whole car up himself to use as his demonstrator.
It had the new Almac TG chassis, grill and doors were other improvements from the earlier Herald based TC. It was powered by a 2 litre Toyota motor and gearbox and had Gemini suspension After a fair bit of persuading Alex agreed to part with it.
First registered in 1987 the car has had a fair bit of use over the years and has needed on going work including an engine swap since Bob bought it in 2002. Bob and Lyn have had lots of enjoyable motoring in the car including club events, track days and a north island tour. Power to weight ratio gives it good performance and handling and even after almost 20yrs use it can still surprise modern cars at the traffic lights!
