Presidents Piece: WHERE TO FROM HERE

I joined the Constructor’s Car Club around 1997 from memory, after meeting and being encouraged by Dave Beazer to join up. It wasn’t until 2009 that I actually managed to attend a club night due to living in either Auckland or Dunedin and never managing to be in Wellington on the relevant Tuesday.

From the outset the regular arrival in my mail box of Spare Parts and the content therein convinced me that this club was something special. This was further reinforced by the two car shows held in Lower Hutt, which I managed to attend. With my relocation to Wellington last year with work I was finally able to join the committee and give something back, and now I find myself President.

Who are we?

The Constructors's Car Club was founded in 1988 by a small number of enthusiasts who were interested in building a vehicle either from scratch or from a kit, but were concerned by the rumours of impending legislation and the impact it may have on their hobby. The club they formed went on to become one of the 10 founding clubs of the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association (LVVTA), the body entrusted with New Zealand’s modified and custom built vehicle certification system.

25 years on and the Wellington based club has over 160 members, with approximately 40% scattered throughout New Zealand. Technical expertise remains a strength of the club with much of the communal knowledge being captured and passed on via the production of 11 editions of the club magazine ‘Spare Parts’ every year.
